It’s Thyme to Talk About Relaxation

By Thursday, June 26, 2014 0 , , Permalink

Summertime is all about the outdoors, lots of sun, weekend pool parties and more outdoors! So with the ever-changing temperatures, it’s no wonder your skin can start to feel a little dry and weathered. Keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated all summer long by following these tips. They may even help calm your mind and relax your body-all without a pricey trip to a luxe resort.

Set aside one night a week to disconnect and relax. Trade your regular ‘ol shower in for a long, hot bath. We recommend adding a little Aqua Coralline Bubble Bath to your tub for a truly relaxing experience. Aqua Coralline has hints of pure water lily, white cyclamen, crisp driftwood, tart yuzu, lemon pulp and Hiniki wood, which is used in Japan for purification and relaxation in ritual bathing, and for those of you who struggle with allergies, Hiniki wood is also believed to have decongestant properties.

Harness the power of scent. Smells are so powerful and they can instantly take you back in time (e.g. baking with mom), change your mood and even help ease pain. Try burning a favorite candle when you are in need of a pick-me-up. We suggest you try Thymes Lavender Candle. Lavender creates an aromatic buffer to help cushion you from the stresses of the outside world and is great for creating a sense of tranquility and comfort.

Become one with nature. Place a few plants throughout your house if you are trying to lower your blood pressure and stress-hormone levels. Apparently, just touching a houseplant may prompt a relaxation response in the brain. Plus, leaves can act as an anti-allergen by stripping pollutants from the air. “One plant can purify up to 100 square feet of air”, says Sharon Nejman of the Chicago Botanic Garden. Don’t have a house plant? Then come by our store and let us help you pick one out! We don’t just sells flowers, we have a variety of house plants too!

Lather up. Take a few moments after getting out of the shower or bath to lather your body with lotion. During the summer, the heat can strip your skin of the essential nutrients, so make sure not to skimp on the body lotion. One product we love is Thymes Kimono Rose Body Lotion. It is loaded  shea butter, olive-based squalane and humectant glycerin. The addition of sakura blossom and noni extracts add a refreshingly calming touch.

Take thyme to follow these tips! You’ll be surprised to see how a little “me” time goes a long way!

Baked Crab Cakes with Lemon Herb Aioli

Creamy and versatile, Stonewall Kitchen’s Lemon Herb Aioli makes for a wonderful topping on all types of fish, tacos or burgers.  Here is an easy crab cake recipe that is perfect for a Monday summer evening. See the recipe below for a list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions. However, if you aren’t feeling up to making a homemade crab cake, then head on over to your local grocery store and pick up a pack of frozen crab cakes to make dinner even simpler. If you are wondering what to serve along side the crab cakes, might I suggest something crunchy, like green beans or white sweet corn to add a little contrasting texture to the meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (preferably flavored with olive oil)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • tablespoon chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 2 scallions, finely chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 pound lump crabmeat
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 jar of Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Herb Aioli

Directions

  • Gather the following tools: cutting board, chef’s knife, dry measuring cups, measuring spoons, small and large mixing bowls, rubber spatula, spoons, sheet pan, offset spatula
  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • In a large bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, Old Bay, parsley, scallions, and egg. Add crab meat, season with salt and pepper, and stir well.
  • Form crab cakes into a ball using about 1/4 cup of crab mixture for each cake. Dip the cakes into the breadcrumbs, flatten to about 1 inch high, and place on a lightly oiled sheet pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
  • Allow for the crab cakes to cool and then transfer to a serving plate.
  • Serve the crab cakes with Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Herb Aioli.

Sip, Savor & Mingle – Open House fun!

With the kick of heat and a bit of a zing, the Blue Crab Bay Margarita Mix was a popular item among our Trapp and Company friends. This margarita mix is infused with jalapeño, creating a burst of heat and sweet in your mouth. It’s crisp, light and refreshing and thebest part is that it’s easy to make. Pour two parts mixer to one part tequila over ice and it’s time to drink up! Spice things up even more by adding cucumber or watermelon to elevate your next cocktail party.

Another item that stood out at the open house party was the Stonewall Kitchen Truffle Marinara Sauce. This sauce is made with only the ripest tomatoes and fresh herbs and spices, creating a unique and flavorful taste. It can be used not only as a pasta sauce, but as a pizza sauce as well.

Steven Chester, our retail sales manager grilled up a storm with his unique and creative gourmet pizzas. He used The Big Green Egg to grill the dough until it reached a crisp perfection, then he topped the pizza with the Truffle Marinara Sauce, sausage and blue cheese and on the other pizza Steve added fresh asparagus, mushrooms and Parmesan cheese.

Don’t worry if you missed the last one because we will be having another Trapp and Company Open House Party this Friday. Stop by to sip a jalapeño infused margarita, savor a slice of gourmet pizza and mingle with friends.

In the meantime, let us know if there are any other particular cocktails or recipes you suggest we try! We’d love to hear your suggestions.
