By Tuesday, May 5, 2015 0 No tags Permalink 1

Trapp & Company’s Floral Design team is excited to present our newest collection, “Jewels of the Summer.” Named for six semiprecious stones, these designs are as exquisite as the jewels whose names they bear.

Each design in this collection gives you the maximum in color impact and uses only the freshest and best of available flowers at the time of your order. We purchase direct from Holland weekly and augment with locally grown as available from area flower farms. Our design team uses variations of shades in a single colorway to give you a design that is clean, elegant and balanced.

Summer Jewels

You’re probably more familiar with mixed arrangements that play one color off another to get attention. For this collection, our designers expertly mix flowers of the same color family, using different size blooms and textures to create excitement and appeal. The single, intense concentration of color draws attention to the flowers while the assorted textures and sizes create depth and interest.

These focused color designs are sure to be set apart from the rest. Whether bold and bright or soft and serene, these new designs are anything but boring. Shop the collection now!

Citrine

We invite you to come into our showroom at 4110 Main St during our upcoming “Spring into Summer” event, May 7-10. We’ll be featuring all six designs in table top settings to give you ideas on integrating them with your favorite table linens and accessories.

Speaking of linens, our next blog will introduce our newest line of beautiful French linens from Garnier-Thiebaut.

A Guy’s Guide to Giving Flowers

How can a man make a lasting impression on a woman? The answer is easier than you may even realize. A recent consumer research study shows that the answer to making a lasting impression is right under his nose- it’s through flowers. In fact, the study shows that “92% of women can remember the last time they received flowers, and 89% say receiving flowers makes them feel special.” For some reason, giving floral arrangements to women still remains a challenge for most men. To assist men with overcoming their floral gift-giving struggles, Author and TV host Rebecca Cole provides some easy to remember guidance. “If the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then the pathway to a woman’s heart is through her other senses,” said Cole, author of Flower Power and co-host of Discovery Channel’s Surprise By Design. “Flowers are a sensual gift that can express emotion so simply-with just a little knowledge and phone call to the florist.” Here are a few tips on how to send the right message to the woman in your life – your sister, that special someone, a co-worker or just a good friend.

  • A Blossoming Romance- This emotion may be the most difficult for a man to express, so let the bouquet do the talking. Purple roses and purple lilacs symbolize love at first sight. So, assuming you don’t want to say that quite yet, your best choice would be a romantic bouquet with a variety of colors and flowers. “A passionate arrangement is filled with hot pinks, oranges, reds and golds. Add a thoughtful card to help communicate just the right sentiment,” says Cole. However, another approach would be to send a few red roses. This will subtly express you are interested without overdoing it.

  • The Real Deal-  To send an arrangement that shouts, “I love you”, you’ll need to take a closer look into the meanings of flowers. For example, the aster flower symbolizes love and patience.  Another great flower to use would be a peony. “With their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.” Cole reminds men to “Take note of her favorite flowers – the varieties at your wedding, flowers you sent her when you first started dating or the ones she buys for herself. Those will have great meaning and impact.”

  • Leading Ladies- “No woman – especially moms, grandmas and sisters – should live without a little TLC,” says Cole. If you are looking brighten someone’s day and put a smile on their face then stick to a garden-style arrangement with greens and soft pastel hues. Keep in mind that no matter what type of flower you send, it will without a doubt, send a message that you care.

Here are just a few more pointers to help you out:

  1. Be spontaneous: “Research shows that 96% of women like to receive flowers when they’re not expecting them.”
  2. Size Doesn’t Matter: Flowers make a big impact and leave a lasting impression, no matter the size of the arrangement!
  3. Relax: “The most important thing to remember is that you simply cannot go wrong with flowers,” said Cole. “Your florist is there to help, but you’ll get all the credit.”

When it comes to giving flowers remember you’ve got Trapp and Company just a phone call away! Give us a call today and let us help you give the perfect floral arrangement. 816-931-6940 The consumer research cited was conducted in 2005 by The Michael Cohen Group.

Sadie+Stella Shops at Trapp and Company

Trapp and Company was so excited to have Lindsay Dress, blogger of Sadie+Stella, blog about the store! To tell you a little about Lindsay, I’ll start off by saying she is one of the cutest people I have ever met! She is super stylish, has a really cute Tory Burch purse, her favorite flower is protea and she loves Chipotle. Her blog features unique interior design, cuisine, entertaining, fashion and lifestyle. She strives to bridge the gap between home design and fashion. Her passion for interior design and fashion is so apparent with each and every blog post. With that said, it was a true honor to have somebody as talented as Lindsay reviewing our store and products.

So let’s take a look at some of her favorites things in the store!

Lindsay took home with her a Scalamandre Haute Decor Coffee Table book. For those of you who aren’t diehard interior designers, you might not know who Scalamandre is. Let me enlighten you, Franco Scalamandre established Scalamandre Silks in 1929 and since then Scalamandre has become synonymous with the manufacture of the finest quality fabrics, trims, wallcovering and furnishings in America.

book

One of Scalamandre’s most notable achievements was during the Kennedy administration. It was then that Scalamandre received one of its highest profile commissions for the White House. Scalamandre was engaged to reproduce early 19th century textiles for the Blue Room’s drapery and the Red Room’s walls, drapery and upholstery. In addition, Scalamandre’s fabrics were used for the White House’s residential interiors. Under every administration since Herbert Hoover, refurbishments during the Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Clinton and both Bush administrations also use stock and custom woven textiles from Scalamandre. IMG_4891

Okay, now let’s get back to Lindsay’s favorites.

While shopping with Lindsay, she mentioned her love for oriental inspired designs. This throw pillow is one of her favorites from the many  varieties we have in store.

Another item that she liked was our variety of blue and white ginger jars. Though ginger jars were initially used to store and transport spices, hence their name, the containers (which usually lack handles) have been used chiefly as decorative objects since the 19th century. These jar are the perfect touch to enhance your home decor.

Here are some of the decoupage trinkets for the home the she liked. These trinkets are from a line called FRINGE STUDIO. They develop original artwork and designs to create a collection of vases, glass trays, frames, candles, soaps, jewelry, purse accessories, stationery and tabletop.  This line is super popular, so come check them out before it’s sold out!

And of course we had to send Lindsay home with a Trapp Private Gardens votive candle sampler and No. 60 Jasmine Gardenia candle. She says, and I quote, that Trapp Private Gardens are “the absolute best candles”! Come by and pick out your favorite candle today!

Last but not least, she took home with her a super cute Wagbag. Wagbags are available in store and come in a variety of sizes and styles. These colorful bags are handcrafted and designed for the individual who wants to make a statement. These bags are uniquely different because they are  produced by  intricate needlework, patchwork and embroidery art forms.
IMG_4903 A big thank you to Lindsay for shopping local and visiting us! We enjoyed having you and sharing your favorite finds! To read the full review of Lindsay’s shopping trip to Trapp and Company head over to her blog, Sadie+Stella.

It’s Thyme to Talk About Relaxation

By Thursday, June 26, 2014 0 , , Permalink 0

Summertime is all about the outdoors, lots of sun, weekend pool parties and more outdoors! So with the ever-changing temperatures, it’s no wonder your skin can start to feel a little dry and weathered. Keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated all summer long by following these tips. They may even help calm your mind and relax your body-all without a pricey trip to a luxe resort.

Set aside one night a week to disconnect and relax. Trade your regular ‘ol shower in for a long, hot bath. We recommend adding a little Aqua Coralline Bubble Bath to your tub for a truly relaxing experience. Aqua Coralline has hints of pure water lily, white cyclamen, crisp driftwood, tart yuzu, lemon pulp and Hiniki wood, which is used in Japan for purification and relaxation in ritual bathing, and for those of you who struggle with allergies, Hiniki wood is also believed to have decongestant properties.

Harness the power of scent. Smells are so powerful and they can instantly take you back in time (e.g. baking with mom), change your mood and even help ease pain. Try burning a favorite candle when you are in need of a pick-me-up. We suggest you try Thymes Lavender Candle. Lavender creates an aromatic buffer to help cushion you from the stresses of the outside world and is great for creating a sense of tranquility and comfort.

Become one with nature. Place a few plants throughout your house if you are trying to lower your blood pressure and stress-hormone levels. Apparently, just touching a houseplant may prompt a relaxation response in the brain. Plus, leaves can act as an anti-allergen by stripping pollutants from the air. “One plant can purify up to 100 square feet of air”, says Sharon Nejman of the Chicago Botanic Garden. Don’t have a house plant? Then come by our store and let us help you pick one out! We don’t just sells flowers, we have a variety of house plants too!

Lather up. Take a few moments after getting out of the shower or bath to lather your body with lotion. During the summer, the heat can strip your skin of the essential nutrients, so make sure not to skimp on the body lotion. One product we love is Thymes Kimono Rose Body Lotion. It is loaded  shea butter, olive-based squalane and humectant glycerin. The addition of sakura blossom and noni extracts add a refreshingly calming touch.

Take thyme to follow these tips! You’ll be surprised to see how a little “me” time goes a long way!

Baked Crab Cakes with Lemon Herb Aioli

Creamy and versatile, Stonewall Kitchen’s Lemon Herb Aioli makes for a wonderful topping on all types of fish, tacos or burgers.  Here is an easy crab cake recipe that is perfect for a Monday summer evening. See the recipe below for a list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions. However, if you aren’t feeling up to making a homemade crab cake, then head on over to your local grocery store and pick up a pack of frozen crab cakes to make dinner even simpler. If you are wondering what to serve along side the crab cakes, might I suggest something crunchy, like green beans or white sweet corn to add a little contrasting texture to the meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (preferably flavored with olive oil)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • tablespoon chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 2 scallions, finely chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 pound lump crabmeat
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 jar of Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Herb Aioli

Directions

  • Gather the following tools: cutting board, chef’s knife, dry measuring cups, measuring spoons, small and large mixing bowls, rubber spatula, spoons, sheet pan, offset spatula
  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • In a large bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, Old Bay, parsley, scallions, and egg. Add crab meat, season with salt and pepper, and stir well.
  • Form crab cakes into a ball using about 1/4 cup of crab mixture for each cake. Dip the cakes into the breadcrumbs, flatten to about 1 inch high, and place on a lightly oiled sheet pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
  • Allow for the crab cakes to cool and then transfer to a serving plate.
  • Serve the crab cakes with Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Herb Aioli.
